The Mediterranean Flagship Event: “Turn ideas into action The Mediterranean Lighthouse as a pilot to upscale the challenges of the Decade from local to global”.

The Mediterranean Flagship Event “Turn ideas into action. The Mediterranean Lighthouse as a pilot to upscale the challenges of the Decade from local to global” will be held within the framework of the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona, from April 10th to 12th, 2024.

Organised jointly by the European Commission, BlueMissionMed, MedCities, the Barcelona City Council, IEO–CSIC and the Union for the Mediterranean, this in-person event will take place on Friday, April 12th, from 13:15 to 14:45, at Barcelona International Convention Centre, in the Atlantic Ocean Room (Area 06), Ground Floor. Note that the event is open to participants of the UN Ocean Decade only.

This event will provide a high-level overview of current actions and initiatives with key examples in line with the objectives of the EU Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030’, collected in the Mediterranean Lighthouse.
The purpose of the event is to provide a platform for multi-stakeholders, in particular from cities and local communities engaged in the Ocean Decade, to discuss impactful solution-oriented initiatives in preventing and eliminating pollution in the Ocean and waters that are accessible, reliable, scalable, and transferable from the local to the global scale.

The discussion will bring together stakeholder from Industry and Business, Research and Innovation, Civil Society/NGOs, Policymakers, Foundations, Philanthropists that are interested in showcasing, implementing or learning about solutions for reducing and preventing pollution at the local scale.
