What you can get from us?
BlueMissionMed will provide tailored support through different streams, spanning from acceleration and scale-up of Innovative Transformative Solutions, to match-making and support to potential solution implementers.
- Solutions Providers (early stage) – Do you have a general idea and you want to develop it more concretely?
- Solutions Providers (advanced) – Do you already have a solution and want to promote/test it further with other regional partners?
- Solutions Seekers – Are you looking for a solution to implement/replicate in your context, in line with the Mission objectives?
- Looking for inspiration – Are you interested in being inspired on how to support the Mission, even if you don’t have a clear idea yet?
As a pilot initiative, we aim to provide support from April-November 2025.

Key thematic areas
The support process began with a Call for Expressions of Interest, followed by a needs assessment to analyse common challenges and the potential for implementation across different sectors. Based on these findings, the solutions were categorised into three key thematic areas, each addressing a specific aspect of pollution prevention and ecosystem restoration:
THEMATIC AREA 1
Biobased innovation

- Restoring: biotechnologies for reef restoration, bioremediation
- Developing alternatives to pollutants: biobased animal feed, fertilizers, packaging, cosmetics and pharma
- Re- and upcycling: fishing gear, aquaculture materials
THEMATIC AREA 2Monitoring & detecting pollution

- Detecting: aquatic pollutants, micro and macro-plastics, oil and hydrocarbon spills
- Cleaning-up: pollution interception and removal, remote marine clean-up
- Monitoring and measuring: AI and drone tech, indicators
THEMATIC AREA 3Waste management & water treatment and energy

- Waste sorting and transformation: litter and chemical retention, waste-water filters
- Renewable Energy: Waste to energy, solar powered shipping
- Managing and advising: Science-based policy advice, urban sewage network
These three thematic areas are directly linked to the Innovative and Transformative Solutions identified by our project as essential to tackle marine and water pollution. By fostering nature-based approaches, advanced monitoring technologies, and circular economy strategies, these categories represent key drivers of systemic change.
