Great success of BlueMissionMed project at ECOMONDO 2024!
Rimini 6-8 November 2024 – The BlueMissionMed project, played a key role in promoting the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters in the Mediterranean, in the context of various conferences held at ECOMONDO, the pivotal event for green and circular economy taking place every year in Rimini, Italy.
BlueMissionMed activites started on the 6th of November with the conference “Boosting technology, business models and societal engagement for the implementation of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters in the Mediterranean”, organized in collaboration with Ecomondo STC, the European Commission, BlueMed GSOs, CNR, BusinessMed, Ecorys, FVA, CPMR-IMC, Prep4Blue, RHE-MEDiation. The conference brought together Mediterranean stakeholders contributing to the EU Mission “Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030”. This pivotal event, co-organized by key partners as part of the BlueMissionMed Italian HUB activities, was moderated by Francesco Camonita from CPMR, with the objective of bridging the gap between innovative solutions, policymakers, and the business community.
During the event, the winners of the Society4Med, have been awarded by Elisabetta Balzi from DG RTD of the European Commission. The winners shared their inspirational good practices, to stimulate similar activities across and beyond the Mediterranean basin. After the final remarks from the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, provided by Andreea Strachinescu, DG MARE, EC, the conference was concluded by Fedra Francocci, BlueMissionMed project manager.
After the event, a networking session took place, offering participants a unique opportunity to connect with business experts, investors, and the winners of the Society4Med award.
BMM partners and stakeholders participated actively in numerous workshops, notably alongside Dr. Balzi from the European Commission Mission Ocean and Waters, including the workshop Innovating the Mediterranean: Youth-Driven Green and Blue Transitions! Award Innovation for a Mediterranean Food Transition focusing on empowering youth in the blue economy. During this session, a mockup of the BlueMissionMed book for kids “Our Blue Treasure”, that will be launched in Spring 2025, was showcased, as inspirational example of younger citizens’ education about ocean and water literacy in a fun and engaging way.
Finally, Fantina Madricardo (CNR) contributed to the event “Riduzione e gestione dei rifiuti nei porti di pesca per promuovere una pesca sostenibile” dedicated to sustainable fishing, sharing insights, outcomes, and solutions from the BMM roadmap, further advancing conversations on sustainable practices in maritime industries.
