“Ventotene Calls Europe” – A Celebration of Dialogue, Cooperation and Shared Commitment
7–8 July 2025 | Spazio Europa, Rome
To mark the International Day of the Mediterranean, the BlueMissionMed project was honoured to join the two-day initiative “Ventotene chiama l’Europa”, organised by L’Abbraccio del Mediterraneo ETS.
The event brought together Mediterranean stakeholders, institutions and citizens to reflect on the region’s shared future and to renew a collective commitment to cooperation, sustainability, and peace, in line with the five “Ps” of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
During the celebrations, the Coordinator of BlueMissionMed underlined the strategic importance of the Mediterranean within the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, highlighting the essential role of research, innovation, and multi-level cooperation in accelerating the Mission’s implementation across the basin. The Mission’s place-based approach engages regional authorities, institutions, and communities in a common effort to protect, restore, and regenerate our sea.
These key messages were also shared during an interview broadcast on Italy’s national television, where the coordinator illustrated how the Mission offers a concrete framework to translate science into action and enable systemic change toward a sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient Mediterranean region.
The interview underlined the key role of research, innovation, and multi-level cooperation in accelerating the Mission’s implementation across the basin, engaging regions, institutions, and stakeholders in the shared effort to protect, restore and regenerate our sea.
The Mediterranean is not only a biodiversity hotspot, but also a vital socio-economic and cultural crossroads facing mounting environmental pressures. The Mission provides a concrete framework to translate science into action and to drive systemic change towards a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future for the region.
