SUBMERSIBLE SAMPLER FOR NANOPLASTICS AND MICROPLASTICS IN NAUTILOS PROJECT
TECHNOLOGY
transversal across sectors
microplastic pollution reduction
Monitoring and Control
Solution Scope: Monitoring & Tracking Technologies (Water quality monitoring)
Target Contaminant: Microplastics
Solution Provider or Contact Point: SubCtech
Project: NAUTILOS – New Approach to Underwater Technologies for Innovative, Low-cost Ocean obServation
ITS Description: This ITS responds to a R&I focus area of activity in monitoring & control of plastics pollution, namely by addressing the development of new technologies for water monitoring. It also responds to different sectoral challenges listed in the BMM OIR. An example is the wastewater and solid waste management sector, whereby the ITS responds to the need for new monitoring and assessment strategies to address current/emerging pollution. The listed solution narrows the R&I gap for new more efficient analytic capabilities for micro and nano plastics detection in the environment.
Correspondence with BMM OIR (sectoral priorities, R&I activities, gaps, needs): The ITS responds to an R&I need for development of new micro-plastic filtration systems and technologies. It provides a solution to the Technological/Scientific Challenge of the BMM OIR for the wastewater and solid waste management sector in cities (and beyond), including further struggle to minimize micropollutants and microplastics releases in the aquatic environment. More specifically, it provides new micro-fluidic technologies for micropollutants removal and destruction from the water environment.
