ITS Description: Through a recycling process, new life is provided to a wide array of plastics and organic material retrieved from the coastal areas. This ITS implements a process that creates panels made of a composite material containing marine litter, in line with a circular economy and sustainable waste management concept.  The products obtained with these panels have interesting properties, maintaining mostly the performance of original composites, thus making them ideal to be used for urban furniture such as tables, benches and planters. This recycling process re-generates marine litter recovered from the environment into durable products for the market.

Correspondence with BMM OIR (sectoral priorities, R&I activities, gaps, needs): This ITS responds to an innovation focus area of activity in elimination & remediation of marine litter, namely by addressing the development of new schemes for the marine litter valorisation and recycling. It also responds to challenges listed in the BMM OIR for the plastic industry and the solid waste management sectors.
