On the 24th of March, an On-line Policy Workshop of the BlueMissionMed project will take place, with the aim of addressing Solutions to face Plastic Pollution in oceans, seas and waters.

Linked to the HUBs4Innovation Session on 5 November 2024, the BlueMissionMed Spanish HUB together with the Intermediterranean Commission (CPMR) and Medcities will hold this Policy Workshop aimed at policymakers and decision-makers to explore and implement actionable solutions in ports, municipalities and the tourism sector.

The workshop will focus on Innovative and Transformative Solutions to tackling two key challenges associated with plastic and micro-plastic pollution in the Mediterranean. Firstly, solutions for the prevention and reduction of waste reaching the surface of the water surface around ports, marinas and tourist coastal municipalities. And secondly, solutions against wet wipes, cigarette butts and other single-use plastics (SUP) that collapse the sewage system.

The session aims to strengthen and enhance the capacities of decision-makers in implementing effective policies to combat plastic pollution and to align policy and governance tools with the objectives of the Mission. Thus, the goal is to prevent and reduce the amount of plastics originating from land-based sources, specifically from tourism, municipalities and the port sector.

The session will have a duration of two hours and is designed to offer participants a platform to explore solutions, engage in debate, and exchange views and priorities. Additionally, it will provide first-hand insights into the next steps and opportunities offered by the BlueMissionMed Support Programme, which is dedicated to advancing progress towards Mission Goal 2: ‘Restore our oceans and waters’ – ‘Prevent and eliminate pollution of our oceans, seas, and waters by 2030’.
