BlueMissionMed Event at UNOC3: “Mediterranean in Action: Engaging Communities and Advancing Solutions to Tackle Pollution under the Mission Ocean and Waters”
6 June, NICE – UNOC3 – 10:00 – 11:30
La Baleine, Beyond Borders “Ocean Futures, Learning and Protecting Together” Pavilion

In the framework of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”, the EU funded project BlueMissionMed, in collaboration with the European Commission, is proud to host this high-level side event at the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference.
The EU Mission aims to eliminate pollution, regenerate marine and freshwater ecosystems, and make the blue economy carbon-neutral and circular. It promotes regional engagement through “Lighthouses” in key sea and river basins. These Lighthouses serve as hubs to pilot, demonstrate, and scale up solutions that contribute to achieving the Mission’s ambitious objectives.
The Mediterranean Lighthouse, coordinated by BlueMissionMed, mobilizes governments, researchers, businesses, and citizens across the region to co-develop and implement transformative solutions. It places particular emphasis on reducing pollution, protecting biodiversity, and empowering communities, creating real momentum for a healthier, more resilient sea basin.
The side event “Mediterranean in Action: Engaging Communities and Advancing Solutions to Tackle Pollution under the Mission Ocean and Waters” brings together actors who are actively contributing to these goals. It showcases tangible, replicable initiatives that demonstrate how Mission objectives are being translated into action on the ground.This workshop is an opportunity to:
- Highlight ongoing efforts and projects that offer impactful and scalable interventions;
- Share concrete results and lessons learned;
- Explore how cooperation across sectors and borders can amplify impact.
Through this dialogue, we aim to strengthen regional ownership, inspire commitment, and chart a shared course toward a pollution-free and thriving Mediterranean Sea.
